Making Decisions
on Saturday, June 4, 2011Ever been stuck to the floor unable to move? Ever woke up in the morning and wanted to turn back over and go to back to sleep, rather than getting up and going to work?
Putting off the hard decisions will bring these types of feelings out real fast…
One of the hardest things I have had to do lately is to not make decisions… and what I mean by that is not stopping the process of management, but changing my style… listening more than talking, drawing out ideas rather than giving ideas. Asking open end questions that make others think.
My style has always been to lead from the front… charging forward and hoping that everybody will follow (because they believe in me)… but I have learned over the last ten months that one man can’t do everything, and what’s more by trying to lead too hard, that the your followers step back and let you “do it!”.
Not involving the people around you is the best recipe for failure! While empowering those around you and making them part of the process helps build consensus towards a common goal. By using this style of leadership I have a feeling that not only can I win, but WE will win too!
